First words:
Dada - he said this for months before he said...
Mama
Backpack - this was his first real word other than mama and dada
Baby- he loves his baby, it's his glow worm
Bye-Bye

Words he says with Excitement (very loud):
Lion
Amen- every time we finish a prayer at a meal or after his bedtime prayer, we will say "amen" and then Jack yells it
Olivia - Ben likes to sing the theme song to the show and Jack likes to shout her name

Other words in no particular order:
Duck
ball
all done
down
Bath
Buzz - for his Buzz Lightyear car
Animal - this is probably one word that only I know he is saying
Outside
slide
play
juice
puppy - sounds like Papa
Abby - this is his cousin Abby, the first name he learned to say
Please

He also likes to say "OOMPAH!" and raise his fist in the air.  But we don't know what this means...he learned it in Sunday School one day and has been saying it ever since.

Playing, Eating, Sunglasses...14 Months

Mommy and Daddy's 4 year wedding anniversary.  Yay...Jack is clapping for us.

PLAYING around the house
Jack and Ben finally got their Mavs Championship shirts in.

Jack started clapping in his 13th month into his 14th month.  I was so glad that he finally did this.  I was getting a little worried that he didn't clap yet.

Here is Jack playing in the box I created.  Also, we tried to get him to clap standing on his own but he would always sit down to clap.

Making funny faces while eating.

Food on his face

One of my favorites...Jack's faces are just priceless.  He is looking for Ben to walk through the garage door after a long day at work.

I love Jack's face...it's like "give me back my duck and my ball!"

Santa Fe 2011 and First Steps!

So Ben's company, actually the backers of his company, had a conference in Santa Fe and encouraged families to attend.  So we thought, "perfect!" we'll fly up and back on the company's dime and visit Ben's parents cabin in between.

Jack had not been on an airplane since the last time we went to Santa Fe when he was 3 months old.  So that flight was a piece of cake.  I will admit I was worried about Jack and how this flight would be. Well it was awful!

We let Jack crawl around next to our gate at the airport to hopefully get all of his energy out.  Then on the plane he was ok... at first.  He sat in our laps and then noticed the window shade.  For the next 20 minutes all he wanted to do was push the shade up and down.  The only problem was that he couldn't physically push the shade up, all he could do was pull it down.  So I had to push it up.  I wasn't going to try and teach discipline on an airplane, so I did it.  Then, Jack was sitting on Ben's lap and accidentally spilled a full cup of cold water on my leg...that was ok, I knew it would dry.  But with 20 minutes left in the flight, I took Jack and laid him on my chest, and he proceeded to pee all over me!  We had him in his nighttime diaper which is supposed to hold more and the flight was only an hour.  This was humorous because when we had picked him up from his preschool his teacher made the comment, "We just changed Jack, but he pees all the time!"

So, after checking into the hotel we took Jack over to the Kids Camp.  Now, I wasn't sure how good this would be but Ben assured me that everyone at this conference makes waaaay more money, like millions of dollars more than us, so there is no way that the kids camp isn't top quality.  And he was right.  They were great.  When we picked him up, 9pm (10pm Texas time) he was just about to doze off.  He was snuggled up in a big blanket in a pack n play with his "baby" while the younger kids watched a movie in the same room.  They said Jack was the star of the night, everyone wanted to play with him and he enjoyed playing with them. They said he'd eat a little, then crawl off and play, then come back for some more food, then go play again.  I'm pretty sure he was spoiled that night.

Time to put him to bed.  This was the first time we had Jack sleep in the same room with us since he was 4 weeks old, if that.  So we put his pack n play in the corner of the room and piled pillows up on the side of the double bed not being used to create a wall.  This way if he stood up after we laid him down, he wouldn't be able to see us.  So, we did his whole bedtime routine, turned out all of the lights and put him down.  Ben and I just looked at each other and said "do we just stand here and not move?"  He did great...he went to sleep after about 5 minutes.  So we did too.  We didn't want to turn on the tv for fear he would wake up.

Unfortunately, since Jack only slept about an hour during the day and then went to bed about 2.5 hours past his normal bedtime, he woke up about an hour after going to bed with a night terror.  Jack has had a few of these so we knew that's what it was.  It is happens when kids are sleep deprived and/or go to bed late.  They wake up crying/screaming and are actually not awake, it's like sleep walking.  But you are not supposed to do anything, just make sure they don't hurt themselves.  If you try and console them, call out their name or pick them up, it will make it worse.  We have yet to not do anything, plus being in a hotel room, we were even more stressed.  So Ben took him oustide and after about 10 minutes total Jack came to.  We put him back in his crib and he went right to sleep.  So needless to say, I had a super stressful day.

The next day, we had breakfast as a family and then Ben went off to his meetings.  So Jack and I came back and I tried to put him down for a nap but he wasn't having any of it, he was sleepy but didn't want to be in the pack n play.  So I laid him on the bed to see if he would take a nap....and he did!  He slept for over an hour.

Then at about 10:30 I took him to the Kids Camp.  After that I had a nice relaxing day.  I laid by the pool, ordered room service (which I have never done before), and then got a facial.  All paid for by the company.  So nice!

Healthy, right?  But it was good!

I told Ben this was exactly what I wanted to do a year ago when Jack was a few months old.  I just wanted to go to a hotel by myself.

At about 4pm I picked up Jack who was having a ball playing and we went on a stroll to downtown Santa Fe.  Ben's parents picked Jack up about 5:30 and kept him till they picked Ben and me up the next afternoon.

That night Ben and I went to Museum Hill and had a nice dinner with his Boss's.  And got to take a few pictures in the photo booth:

The rest of the weekend we spent at Ben's Parents cabin in Glorietta.  Jack had a great time playing with his cousins Abby and Ben and Mikey, the dog.

4th of July 2001

This 4th of July was nothing like I thought it would be.  It started out with our the FBCA Patriotic/USO show.  Ben took Jack to the show and he did really well.  He ate his snack, took a 20 minute nap and then was great the rest of the show.

My group of ladies did "Sing, Sing, Sing" and dressed as flappers.  We got to do a little choreography for our song too...on stage...in the sanctuary!  : 0

Then the next weekend, we went to the Fort Worth Symphony's Concerts in the Garden...Patriotic concert. We go every year with Ben's family, reserve a table and eat fried chicken and yummy side dishes.  This was Jack's first year to attend.  And first year for fireworks.

So, for the actual 4th of July, we did not do anything like we normally would.  I decided the night before that we weren't going to go to the parade.  Ben asked if I was feeling ok because I always insist we go to the parade.  I was just so exhausted from the weekend that I couldn't imagine getting everything ready that night for the next morning.  So we slept in, then went on a walk that morning and later that day went to the pool as a family.  It was so good not to be stressed.
